Requirements

  • Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university or is a graduate of an approved LPN program.
  • Proficient in using a computer, especially Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills.
  • Effective and professional verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate well with associates, patients, family members, and visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Direct nursing care for the patients and supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants.
  • Ensure supervision is in accordance with current federal, state, and local regulations governing the nursing center.
  • Operate oxygen equipment including turning off and on, changing cylinder heads, and cleaning/replacing humidifier.
  • Operate suction machine (oral) including cleaning, selection of appropriate suction catheter and storage.
  • Use manual respirator and locate emergency equipment supplies.
  • Operate whirlpool scales and glucose monitoring devices, including calibration and cleaning.
  • Deliver medications including setting up, rotating, charting, ordering, and administering to patients.
  • Receive drugs from pharmacy in accordance with established procedures.
  • Determine Advance Directive status for patients.
  • Collect lab specimens and interpret results.
  • Implement and administer IV medications.
  • Maintain seizure precautions and administer IV medication during a seizure.
  • Admit, discharge, and transfer patients as requested.
  • Document and bill supplies used.
  • Maintain effective communication with attending physicians.
  • Assist the Director of Nursing Services to coordinate care planning/MDS process and committee meetings.
  • Participate in patient screening and selection process as requested.
  • Assist the Director of Nursing Services in follow-up on consultant recommendations.
