About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) assumes responsibilities for direct nursing care of assigned patients under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or other provider in patient care departments. Provides nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the LPN scope of practice as defined by the Illinois Board of Nursing.

Requirements

Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)American Heart Association (AHA)
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
Certificate of Completion: Licensed Practical Nurse
College Diploma: Licensed Practical Nurse

Responsibilities

Provide direct nursing care to patients under the supervision of a registered nurse, midlevel provider or physician.
Nursing care is guided by the provider orders and the nursing plan of care within the LPN scope of practice.
Reports patient response to care to registered nurse or other provider for evaluation, intervention and modification of the plan of care.
Ensures documentation of care is complete and accurate.
Obtains vital signs as directed
Collects and processes specimens accurately - lab specimens & point of care testing
Wound care, inserts catheters, ear washes, assists care provider with procedures
Administer medication via oral/injection/inhalation
Perform Bladder scans
Complete forms (appeals, prior authorizations, MRI screens)
Assists with in-basket tasks - medication refills, telephone encounters, patient email encounters, relaying test result messages - within LPN scope
Patient education within scope
Facilitates the efficient flow of clinic tasks, assisting CMA, MA & RN staff as needed
Appointment scheduling
Ordering/maintaining supplies
Participating in role-appropriate committees/councils
