Essential Duties Ensure equipment pre-operational, operational checks are maintained in compliance with Maple Leaf Farms policies, Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and Indiana Department of Environmental Management. Ability to weld and fabricate all types of metals and are skillful to run different types of welders. Perform routine maintenance and repairs on diesel engines, including oil changes, filter replacements, brake inspections, and fluid checks. Perform brake jobs and other repairs on both tractor and trailers, vehicles, and farm equipment. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and manuals. Repair or replace malfunctioning components, such as engines, transmissions, steering systems, or braking systems. Test drive vehicles to verify repairs. Communicate with leadership and document accurate records of services performed and parts used. Ensure tools and equipment are in good working condition. Clean and maintain organization within the shop environment. Adhere to all company safety policies and OSHA regulations along with all biosecurity and duck wellbeing standards, practices and policies. Also obtain knowledge of DOT regulations. Respond to emergency breakdowns, either on-site or in the field, as needed. Perform related duties as required which may include supporting other LP departments as needed. Job Specifications Physical Demands: Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, and crawling and the ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs. Use of hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Work Schedule: Full-time, may include weekends or overtime depending on operational needs PPE Requirements: Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (gloves when needed, safety glasses, safety-toe boots, etc.) Valid driver’s license required; willingness to obtain CDL Class A Skills, Abilities, and Education Technical: To learn to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams. To learn and understand electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems along with learning to use diagnostic equipment, power tools, and hand tools. Technology: Basic computer skills for maintenance documentation and diagnostics. Behaviors: Demonstrates an ability to work independently and as part of a team. Language: Strong written and verbal communications skills. Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience: 0-3 years of experience as a diesel mechanic (or equivalent combination of education and experience) Certification: Technical certification or diploma in Diesel Technology or related field preferred Working Climate Shop and field environment. Exposure to noise, dust, grease, and fumes. Frequent lifting, bending, and standing.
