About The Position

The Lower School Teaching Assistant reports to the Lower School Principal and works in partnership with the Lower School Advisory Council Teaching Assistant Representative. Daily responsibilities are assigned by the cooperating teacher to ensure effective communication, efficiency, and classroom support.

Responsibilities

  • Approach all tasks with generosity, accountability, and wholeheartedness.
  • Maintain a kind, respectful tone with students; kindness may include firm and consistent guidance.
  • Attend all required St. David’s professional development days and sessions.
  • Assist with classroom setup and preparation at the beginning of the school year.
  • Take daily attendance unless otherwise directed by the cooperating teacher.
  • Maintain graded student work files for weekly distribution to families.
  • Manage weekly folders and behavior charts as applicable.
  • Supervise lunch five days per week (excluding PreK).
  • Supervise recess as assigned.
  • Assist with morning carpool (excluding PreK).
  • Assist with afternoon carpool (with some exceptions for PreK).
  • Supervise bathroom breaks and provide appropriate support during bathroom‑related accidents.
  • Participate in at least one Lower School committee.
  • Safely transport classes to and from enrichment classes, adhering to expectations for controlled and orderly movement.
  • Support students during enrichment classes as needed, especially in PreK and Kindergarten at the beginning of the year.
  • Sanitize desks and other high‑touch surfaces at the end of the day unless otherwise directed.
  • Stack or arrange chairs at the end of the day unless otherwise directed.
  • Perform clerical and administrative tasks as needed, including copying, laminating, scanning, faxing, and cutting materials.
  • Grade non‑subjective assignments as directed by the teacher(s).
  • Circulate during instructional time to support student learning and assist with on‑task behavior.
  • Use teachable moments to guide students in their faith and toward positive behaviors.
  • Support the efficiency and organization of the classroom by keeping supplies stocked and materials orderly.
  • Know, model, and reinforce classroom behavior expectations.
  • Work with students one‑on‑one as requested.
