About The Position

Lower School Teacher Grades 1- 4 (beginning with the 2026-27 school year) Porter-Gaud School is an Episcopal, independent, co-educational day school of 1,650 students in preschool through grade 12. The Lower School division has an opening for a full-time Lower School Teacher for grades 1 - 4. The Lower School Teacher will be able to teach students in grades 1 through 4. This teacher needs to be able to work both independently and collaboratively and be able to teach effectively from the established grade level curriculum. This teacher will be assigned to teach one grade as a part of a grade level team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Related teaching experience (preferably at the elementary level and in an independent school setting).

Nice To Haves

  • Preferably, a degree in elementary education or early childhood education.

  • Participates as an active team member with the other grade level faculty as well as the Lower School community as a whole.
  • Works ably with teachers in grades 1 - 12 in a specific curricular area.
  • Communicates effectively with all constituencies within the School.
  • Shows evidence of organization, punctuality, and self-motivation.
  • Exhibits an ability to work effectively and collaboratively with the grade level team and all Lower School teachers.
  • Willingness to support diversity and inclusion efforts at the school.
  • The Lower School teacher will display a continuous commitment to developing the attitudes, knowledge, and skills (intercultural competence) to engage in appropriate and effective communication with students, colleagues, and families from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
