Specific Responsibilities: Town School is seeking a full-time Lower School STEM Teacher to work with students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade. An ideal candidate would be able to promote critical thinking and problem-solving through daily activities and project-based learning experiences. There are weekly faculty and department meetings, as well as weekly lunch and recess duty obligations. Faculty are expected to take an active role in the school by contributing to committees, chaperoning field trips, and attending student performances and athletic events. Students at Town learn science via hands-on inquiry using frameworks from institutions such as the Exploratorium’s Inquiry Institute. Subject matter is integrated across disciplines and is grounded in the Next Generation Science Standards. In recent years, there has been greater emphasis on engineering, coding, and robotics, alongside core scientific understanding. Our Lower School STEM teachers are also technology integration leaders and, as such, are an integral part of our efforts to use age-appropriate applications and tools to advance student learning.
