About The Position

Graland Country Day School is seeking a full-time Lower School Math Specialist. This role is dedicated to supporting student achievement for Pre-K through Fourth Grade students experiencing mathematics difficulties. The Math Specialist works in direct consultation with administrators, classroom teachers, and the other three members of the Lower School Student Support Team (SST) personnel to identify needs, provide targeted interventions, and lead professional development to strengthen the division’s overall math instruction.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Special Education and/or Elementary Education required; a specialization in mathematics is mandatory.
  • Elementary teaching experience with a proven track record in math intervention or coaching.
  • Strong grasp of PK-6th grade mathematical learning progressions and familiarity with various math teaching methodologies, including but not limited to Singapore math.
  • Deep understanding of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and the ability to interpret complex psychoeducational data.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment and communicate effectively and professionally with faculty, families, and school leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted math interventions, both in the classroom support and pull-out models, for students in Grades PK-4 identified with specific mathematics difficulties.
  • Evaluate students to identify specific strengths and weaknesses and assess math skills to determine precise instructional needs; implement consistent progress monitoring and utilize targeted data to drive intervention strategies and inform classroom teachers’ instructional planning.
  • Differentiate instruction for students with diverse learning profiles, including those with language-based learning disabilities.
  • Interpret psychoeducational evaluations to help write Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) in collaboration with other SST members.
  • Provide detailed, data-driven feedback through custom rubrics and personalized report card comments for caseload students.
  • Hold conferences for caseload families 3-4 times per year and be available to meet with individual families outside of scheduled conference times as needed.
  • Provide mathematics coaching and staff development; plan, demonstrate, co-teach, and coach alongside classroom teachers.
  • Meet regularly with grade-level teams to assist in the implementation of the mathematics curriculum and analyze data from math assessments.
  • Serve as a school-wide resource for professional materials, instructional strategies, and specialized math manipulatives.
  • Prepare and present staff development sessions for grade-level teams and support community initiatives such as parent math education events.
  • Work closely with current SST personnel and Lower School administration; attend joint meetings with both Lower and Middle School SST to ensure vertical alignment.
  • Coordinate with the Middle School SST to transition students from fourth to fifth grade.
  • Coordinate with classroom teachers and parents regarding the progress of students receiving intervention.
  • Supports collective efforts of the school on instructional and non-instructional sides, including supporting the initiatives of the development, communications and admissions offices and school operational duties.
