Amteck is currently looking to hire a Tech 1 for our low-voltage division out of our office located in Charleston, SC. Primary Role: The Technicians 1’s fundamental role is to work as part of a team to install, maintain, and repair cabling and devices for low voltage systems. They work under the direction of others to perform field work on and are required to install a quality product in compliance with contractual documents and all applicable codes. Their work is subject to inspection while in progress and upon completion by the person they report to.

Requirements

  • Experience working in the construction industry is preferred, but not required
  • Experience working with low voltage systems preferred, but not required
  • Must be able to read a measuring tape
  • Providing personal hand tools needed to perform routine work within 30 days of employment, as per Amteck’s tool list
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of customer relationships and the concept of customer satisfaction, with an aptitude for growing that skill
  • Meet all physical requirements of the position
  • Able to travel to meet customer objectives when needed
  • Possesses Amteck’s Core Values and demonstrates The Amteck Way in daily work activities, behavior and decision making, including maintaining a strong attendance and arriving on time every day ready to begin work at starting time

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain and repair devices and cabling of low voltage systems in commercial and industrial buildings including pulling cable, pulling fiber, learning color codes, learning how to punch down and terminate cables and fiber, and installing cable trays and pathways
  • Demonstrate ability to learn how to use hand and power tools in a safe and cautious manner
  • Begin learning how to read schematics, drawing details, wire maps, and other drawings
  • Work with and around other construction trades in a professional, productive and safe manner
  • Make skillful, controlled manipulations of small objects such as small electronic parts
  • Perform skilled work while overcoming common environmental challenges such as working in cramped areas, overhead, at heights, and in a variety of weather conditions
  • Work with others in a cooperative manner; understand and follow direction
  • Think and act quickly in emergency situations and perform under pressure
  • Complete tasks accurately and productively, always seeking guidance for any unclear aspects of the task and immediately seeking a new task when the current task is finished. Employee does not stay idle during working hours.
  • Work to learn job-related material through peers, supervisors, and company training
  • Accountable for tools and materials used on the jobsite and responsible for securing and returning them to the designated area
  • Obtain required Amteck safety certifications, communicate with team members regarding any safety deficiencies, and work safely without presenting a direct threat to self and others
  • While performing the duties of this job, employee is required to perform the essential functions of the role with or without accommodations. Essential functions include: Ability to understand oral and written instructions; ability to talk and hear. Compliance with Amteck’s dress code and personal appearance policies. To perceive or comprehend by the sense of sight. Characteristics are: Focus, Color perception or depth perception. Must be able to see small objects and small print on dials and drawings Employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and remain sitting for long periods of time. Employee will frequently use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This includes lifting arm(s) above shoulder level to install equipment. Ability to manipulate materials and/or equipment up to 50 lbs, frequently and at long distances(30+ feet) as needed. Ability to move up or mount by using the hands or feet to include: Ladders - Step stool, 8' to 10' ladder, extension ladder, Stairways - 3 or more flights. This includes working at heights over 30 feet. To stretch out, extend, or put forth a bodily part. To touch or grasp something, by extending or stretching. To touch, lift, hold or operate with the hands up to 50 times daily. To bend forward or down from the middle of the waist or the middle of the back, to bend, downwards, to lower oneself and/or to move freely on hands and knees between 20-50 times daily.
  • Perform skilled work in cramped areas, overhead, at heights, and in a variety of weather conditions.
