Position Overview The Low Voltage Technician is responsible for installing, terminating, testing, and servicing low voltage systems including structured cabling, network infrastructure, fire alarm systems, access control, and security systems. This role works closely with project managers, electricians, and other technicians to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience installing low voltage systems
  • Experience with structured cabling, fire alarm systems, or security systems
  • Ability to read blueprints and wiring diagrams
  • Experience terminating CAT5/CAT6 and fiber
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs
  • Comfortable working on ladders and lifts
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and on a team
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of NFPA 72 fire alarm codes (preferred)
  • Experience with testing equipment (Fluke or similar)
  • BICSI Certification
  • NICET Fire Alarm Certification
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
  • Manufacturer certifications (Avigilon, Honeywell, Bosch, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Install and terminate CAT5, CAT6, fiber optic, and other structured cabling systems
  • Install fire alarm systems, devices, and panels
  • Install security, access control, and surveillance systems
  • Mount and terminate low voltage devices including cameras, card readers, and sensors
  • Install cable trays, supports, and pathways
  • Test cabling systems using appropriate testing equipment
  • Troubleshoot connectivity issues and device failures
  • Diagnose and repair fire alarm and low voltage system problems
  • Ensure installations meet code, safety, and manufacturer requirements
  • Maintain accurate installation documentation
  • Work from blueprints, schematics, and project drawings
  • Coordinate with project managers and other trades on job sites
  • Assist with system commissioning and inspections
