About The Position

The Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington (POB) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the improvement and preservation of sight by providing services, education, advocacy, and innovation. POB programs address vision health equity in the D.C. Metropolitan community. POB is seeking a dedicated part-time Low Vision Resource Navigator to join our team and become a vital lifeline for our community. In this role, you will be the bridge between our clients and the essential services they need to thrive. You will introduce persons with vision loss on basic adaptations, devices, and aids, and provides optimism about the vision loss journey. Requirements

US Citizen
BA or higher or at least two years of Community College courses plus work experience.
Valid driver’s licenses in the metro area (DC, MD, VA) or Valid DC, MD, or VA State ID
Must have reliable transportation
Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy
Some experience in Low Vision Rehabilitation (personal or professional).
Proficient in Microsoft office, preferably Google suite, and ZOOM meetings.
Knowledge and experience using or demonstrating low vision technologies.
Attend training sessions and low vision meetings in order to stay up to date on current low vision rehabilitation practices and resources. Most meetings will be virtual.
Demonstrate behavior consistent with Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington’s mission and vision.
Maintain professional appearance and attitude.

Nice To Haves

Bilingual, e.g., Spanish, is a plus.

Responsibilities

One-on-one client consultations - discuss available resources (e.g. magnifiers, transportation, reading resources, etc.), simple daily adjustments that optimize client’s remaining vision (e.g. lighting and contrast, tactile elements, writing guides, etc.).
Answer resource hotline calls in a timely manner.
Resource for technology-based questions (video magnifiers, computer basics, wearables, smart devices, etc.).
Provide information on vision aids and devices.
Assist in completion of forms to access services for persons with vision loss (Talking Books, Rehabilitation Services, Metro Access, etc.).
Motivate clients to maintain and create social support skills and networks to maintain independence.
Available occasional weekends and evenings.
Maintain client list.
Participate in team meetings and training opportunities.
Periodic travel in D.C. Metropolitan area (DC, Suburban MD, and Northern VA).
Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
Must be able to lift at least 30 lbs.
Perform other duties, as assigned.
