UCI Gavin Herbert Eye Institute is Orange County's premier eye-care provider, offering state-of-the-art ophthalmic services, ranging from routine ophthalmic evaluations to complex medical management and surgical care. Our faculty of internationally recognized physicians, surgeons and scientists provide highly specialized training to future ophthalmologists, access to leading-edge clinical trials as well as sight-saving treatments and therapies for virtually any eye disorder. The Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing high-quality evaluation, treatment planning, therapeutic interventions, and discharge planning for adults with low vision, profound vision loss/blindness, and/or neurological vision impairments. Responsibilities include evaluating clients’ abilities to perform activities of daily living (ADLs), conducting home safety/environmental assessments, and providing adaptations to enhance safety, independence, and overall occupational performance. OT interventions will primarily be delivered in home and community settings. Candidates without prior low vision experience will receive mentorship and training.

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated initiative and commitment to ongoing clinical learning and growth.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities.
  • Positive attitude and strong ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; able to communicate effectively with clients, families, team members, and physicians.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective observational, analytical, and teaching skills.
  • Occupational Therapist (OT) - issued by the state of California.
  • Minimum of three years of experience working with adults.
  • Must be able to provide proof of work authorization

Nice To Haves

  • Post-graduate education or certification in low vision rehabilitation is preferred.
  • Experience in low vision rehabilitation is preferred but not required, mentorship will be provided for the right candidate.
