About The Position

The Director of Adoption Services is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations related to Adoption Services and other related family centered programs at Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada. The Director reports to the Vice President of Family Services. The Director supervises multidisciplinary teams, manages state and federal grants, supports staff development, strengthens community partnerships, and ensures the highest standard of service delivery to clients and families. The Director provides supervision and assistance with casework to the Adoption Social Workers as well as organizational tasks such as adherence to agency budget, licensing compliance and community outreach. This includes providing education, support, and adoption services to birth families, adoptive families, and adoptees throughout all phases of the adoption process. This position requires the applicant be a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) in the state of Nevada.

Requirements

  • State of Nevada Licensed Social Worker (LSW) required.
  • Must have a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in child welfare; including at least two (2) years of experience in adoption.
  • Previous supervisory and/or lead social work experience required.
  • Must be able to pass criminal and child abuse background clearances.
  • Knowledge and adherence to Social Work Code of Ethics.
  • Flexible schedule to work after hours and weekends, as necessary.
  • Must be 25 years old with a valid Driver’s License with current minimum Nevada state required auto insurance.
  • Must have transportation available to fulfill field assignments.
  • Must be computer literate and detail-oriented.
  • Must have a strong sense of focus and must be task-oriented and non-judgmental with a clear sense of personal boundaries.
  • Must have a respect for confidentiality involving both clients and employees.
  • Ability to work in a variety of settings with culturally diverse groups.
  • Strong knowledge of adoption related state laws, child development/behavior, family dynamics and child placement procedures.
  • Experience in client interview and assessment techniques.
  • Must be able to effectively handle the highly charged emotions of clients as well as personal emotions raised by the adoption process, crisis pregnancy, substance abuse and poverty.
  • An understanding of general supervisory skills.
  • The ability to teach.
  • Skill in the evaluation of biological parents, adoptive parents and foster parents.
  • An extensive understanding of the development and behavior of children.
  • Knowledge of techniques for the placement of children.
  • Working knowledge of community resources.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Share responsibility of carrying emergency cell phone and responding as needed including after regular business hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with federally or state-funded grant programs preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of Adoptions Services and other related Family Services programs.
  • Ensure programs maintain full compliance with licensing and accreditation standards.
  • Ensure adherence to program standards, procedures, and department budget.
  • Attract, develop, coach, and retain high-performance team members, and empower them to elevate their level of responsibility and performance through positive reinforcement and effective leadership.
  • Promote and instill a culture of inclusiveness, high performance, excellent customer service, and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
  • Supervise, coach, and evaluate Adoption Social Workers and related program and administrative staff.
  • Set and monitor program goals, key performance indicators, and outcomes for Adoption and related Family Service programs.
  • Maintain and submit accurate program data and reports required by adoption licensing bodies, states and federal grantors, and agency leadership.
  • Lead preparation for audits, licensing reviews, and grant renewals.
  • Seek opportunities for professional continuing education for licensed staff.
  • Seek and develop community outreach opportunities, seminars and workshops.
  • Oversee facilitation of monthly support group(s).
  • Provide information regarding the adoption process to prospective adoptive applicants.
  • Collect fees or arrange for fee collection from applicants when due.
  • Represent agency at finalization hearing or other Court matters, community events, and meetings with state agencies.
  • Organize and present at the Adoptive Parent Education classes.
  • Conduct initial interview with adoptive families and birthparents and assign to appropriate social work staff.
  • Train, support and assess readiness of prospective adoptive parents and birthparents to ensure that all appropriate legal compliance is met.
  • Provide transportation to clients utilizing agency vehicle as needed.
  • Maintain a master list of active cases and conduct case management meetings.
  • Provide guidance to social work staff in case management decisions.
  • Prepare information and assist with staff training when needed.
  • Represent agency in ethical, professional, and positive manner at all times.
  • Protect all confidential information, company property and electronic data.
  • Comply with safety rules.
  • Other related duties as directed.
