About the position

As a Loss Control Specialist at EMC, you will play a crucial role in assessing and analyzing the exposure potential of current and prospective policyholders' operations. This position involves conducting detailed loss control surveys, preparing reports for underwriting, and providing tailored services to policyholders to help them manage risks effectively. You will also deliver training and consult with clients on improving their operations and reducing claims trends.

Responsibilities

  • Completes on-site or virtual loss control surveys of current and prospective policyholders' operations.
  • Assesses and analyzes exposure potential and existing controls.
  • Prepares reports for underwriting about identified exposures and provides detailed explanations of business operations, hazards, and controls associated with coverages.
  • Delivers training and on-site loss control surveys for current and prospective accounts.
  • Consults with policyholders regarding their operations, claims trends, and recommendations for improvement related to insured coverages.
  • Develops written recommendations for policyholders to control hazards and prevent or reduce exposure to insured losses.
  • Participates in identifying accounts that would benefit from ongoing or focused service.
  • Analyzes previous losses and current exposures for moderately complex accounts to develop appropriate service plans.
  • Coordinates with other Loss Control team members to provide specialized services.
  • Markets loss control functions in coordination with the branch team by making agency visits and presenting at agency and association meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in safety, engineering, industrial safety, fire protection or related field or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Two years of relevant loss control or safety experience or related.
  • Successful completion of EMC Loss Control training within six months of accepting the role or equivalent.

Nice-to-haves

  • Related Master's degree or designations preferred, such as certified safety professional, CPCU or relevant market certifications.
  • Knowledge of relevant niche markets, such as petroleum marketers, schools, municipalities, or manufacturing.
