About The Position

GHD has an exciting opportunity for a Los Angeles Metro Transportation Lead to join our Highway, Roads, Bridges practice! As a Senior Project Manager/ Team Lead, you will oversee SoCal transportation and infrastructure projects focused on the LA Metro area, based out of our Southern CA, Irvine and Los Angeles offices. The position will consist of serving as a Senior Project Manager and leading/mentoring engineering staff while assisting in GHD's growth in Southern California by supporting business development, identifying opportunities, leading the technical aspects of pursuits, providing client relationship management, and providing technical guidance/support on major projects as required. The successful candidate will have strong leadership, business development, project management, and technical engineering skills. Established client relationships and a consistent track record with developing new business opportunities is required. We are seeking self-motivated and active networkers who value building credible relationships with clients and the community. Through a broad network of clients, GHD has exposure to these transportation projects through Federal, State, Regional, County, and Municipal agencies and private sectors. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field, master's degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience with solid technical knowledge and skills across the transportation & municipal engineering, including a strong background in planning & design; construction experience a plus.
  • Registered Civil Engineer in the State of California preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate and manage deployment of project resource budgets, providing forecasts and presenting variances with narrative at appropriate review points to ensure effective utilization.
  • Clarify roles and responsibilities within the project team and ensure project compliance with the organization's wider program and/or portfolio management decision-making structures and processes.
  • Ensure that risks, issues, dependencies, and constraints are managed appropriately at project level. Where risks or issues threaten delivery of the project, develop and agree on recovery plans.
  • Initiate and lead the governance and delivery of a program or group of significant projects within a function, using an appropriate project management methodology to give assurance that intended outcomes are identified and achieved.
  • Lead large project and program teams (or multiple small- to medium-sized teams); define the project/program vision, communicate the necessary outcomes, and provide guidance to achieve these outcomes; manage resources across projects/programs; negotiate the flow of additional team members on and off the team, as needed; and build the capability of the team through training, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Act as subject matter expert in an area of technology, policy, regulation, or operational management for the team.
  • Develop and manage the delivery of a plan to evaluate and track business benefits and to identify actions needed to maximize them.
  • Interpret the business need and identify solution recommendations to business problems at a business unit level.
  • Lead the planning and delivery of a wide range of information gathering and stakeholder consultation activities and specify, negotiate, and agree on program and project deliverables, ensuring integration across the program.
  • Develop and implement stakeholder engagement strategies and plans across the program to identify relevant stakeholders, to create mutually supportive working relationships, and to ensure that each stakeholder has an appropriate share of voice at both project and program levels.
  • Identify and communicate the actions needed to implement the function's strategy and business plan within the business area or department; explain the relationship to the broader organization's mission, vision, and values; motivate people to commit to these tenets and do extraordinary things to achieve local business goals.
  • Manage projects or substantial workstreams within a transformational change program, ensuring integration with related projects; use structured change management methodologies to build acceptance of change and to embed desired culture and behaviors.
  • Drive a culture of innovation by creating multistakeholder solutions that boost creativity, innovation, and collaboration across business units, such as idea generation platforms, jam sessions, and hackathons.
  • Manage the delivery of assurance reviews within a project, enable the delivery of assurance reviews by independent third parties, and take appropriate action to resolve any issues identified, to give senior stakeholders confidence that the project can deliver according to time, budget, and quality.
