The Academic Support Teacher for the LOOP Program is responsible for providing quality academic instruction to students attending the LOOP summer school program. The role requires differentiating instruction to meet the diverse needs of all students. The program operates from August to May, with academic sessions held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for one hour. The position requires regular attendance and participation in professional development, collaboration with staff, and adherence to various educational standards and requirements.

  • Provide quality instruction using research-based instructional strategies during academic sessions.
  • Maintain and monitor ongoing student progress.
  • Provide effective instruction, modeling, and interventions in various behavioral areas.
  • Offer appropriate educational supplemental activities to meet the needs of all children within the classroom.
  • Utilize best classroom management practices to create a conducive learning environment.
  • Participate in professional development and implement learned strategies.
  • Attend all regularly scheduled planning meetings.
  • Submit accurate time sheets to the Lead Teacher.
  • Collaborate with LOOP staff on various activities.
  • Report absences to the Lead Academic Teacher in advance.
  • College coursework in elementary/secondary education, Work Keys Certificate, ETS Test, or equivalent accepted.
  • Complete LARA (PA 116) mandated requirements including Comprehensive Childcare Background Check (CCBC) and fingerprinting.
  • Obtain CCBC eligibility to work in a licensed childcare facility.
  • Complete MiRegistry Health and Safety Online Modules A, B, C and Transportation or annual Health and Safety Refresher Course.
  • Obtain First Aid Certification and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation by LARA approved agencies.
  • Display physical, social, mental, and emotional soundness to execute the duties of the job.
  • Serve as a role model for all students and within the school community.
  • Interact positively with co-workers, administration, students, parents, and the community.
  • Maintain and promote school district goals and objectives.
  • Comply with state, federal, and District policies, procedures, rules, and the union contract.
  • Regular and on-time in-person attendance is required.
  • College degree and teaching certificate preferred.
  • Valid Michigan Health License (Social Worker, Physical Therapist, Speech and Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist).
  • Teaching or tutoring experience in an urban setting.
  • Wage: Certified - $26.00; Non-Certified - $20.00
