About The Position

Saint Mary Magdalene School Long Term Substitute Teacher: 1st Grade, 7:30am to 3:30pm Catholic Preferred but Not Required Saint Mary Magdalene School, a vibrant and culturally diverse prek-K through 8 school, located at 2940 Parkside Road in Columbus, is seeking a 1st grade long-term substitute teacher to finish the 25-26 school year. This position could possibly lead to a permanent position for the 26-27 school year. First grade is the foundation of elementary grades and the candidate should understand and be committed to educating under this well-known principle. The ideal candidate would be hardworking, collaborative, extremely organized, committed to early elementary learning, nurturing yet structured with high expectations of their students. This position offers candidates full autonomy to structure the class with the goal of learner outcomes. Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following: Enjoys working with children using a nurturing demeanor, exuding educator leadership by instituting procedures and expectations understandable to 6-7 year olds. Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning. Develop lesson plans and activities; Be committed to early learning such as phonics, reading/writing, and foundational math skills. Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment. Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction. Manage student behavior effectively and utilize strategies to make learning fun, memorable and inspiring. Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school. Provide appropriate feedback on work to students. Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies. Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development. Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs. Observe and evaluate student's performance and development. Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments. Other functions of the job include, but are not limited to the following: Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds. Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails. Be professional, trustworthy and committed. Invited to participate in professional activities and staff meetings. Answer emails from families and staff in a timely and appropriate manner.

Requirements

  • Hold an appropriate Ohio Teaching License (Professional, Permanent, Resident Educator, or Substitute) or be eligible to obtain one before beginning to teach
  • Current satisfactory BCI & FBI background checks
  • Have attended or be willing to attend a VIRTUS Protecting God’s Children training
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
