About The Position

Position Overview: Gibbs School (Grade 6 Only School) is seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic, and student-centered Music Long-Term Substitute Teacher. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in music education, with experience in guitar instruction and Soundtrap software for digital music creation. This position also includes leading both in-school and after-school choirs. An additional stipend is provided for directing a small after-school band ensemble. Starting Date: 1/20/2026 End Date: 4/17/2026

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field required.
  • Valid teaching certification in Music (or eligibility for certification), preferred.
  • Experience teaching beginner guitar, chorus, Soundtrap, and/or band ensembles strongly preferred.
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Grade 6 general music classes with a primary focus on beginning guitar and Soundtrap units.
  • Lead the Grade 6 Chorus during the school day.
  • Direct after-school chorus rehearsal once per week.
  • Prepare students for upcoming performances as needed.
  • Direct an after-school band program held twice per week (stipend).
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive, and organized classroom environment.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Collaborate with Gibbs School and the APS Performing Arts Department to ensure continuity and alignment within the program.
  • All typical responsibilities of a classroom teacher, including grading, attendance, and supervision.
