About The Position

At the present time, a vacancy exists for a Long-Term Substitute as a secondary emotional support teacher to teach math within the Gateway Program in the Student Services division of the Chester County Intermediate Unit. The position is located within our Gateway program, which is a school-based emotional support program for middle school and high school students that offers a smaller academic and elective classroom environment. This position is temporary and anticipated to be from Middle of September to Middle of November. An extension is possible but not guaranteed.

Requirements

• Bachelors level degree in education required
• Valid PA Special Education Certificate (7-12 or N-12) required
• Valid PA Instructional Certificate also required if Special Ed Cert is 7-12
• Experience teaching math preferred
• Experience with secondary students preferred
• Experience working with children and adolescents with severe and complex behavior challenges in school, community, or residential setting preferred
• Current police, child abuse & FBI fingerprint clearances required (conducted by the CCIU upon hire)

Responsibilities

• Instruct individuals and groups in special education skill and subject areas
• Plan curriculum, lessons, and special education programs and teaching methods
• Evaluate and monitor student progress based on classroom performance, test scores, and observation of behavior
• Support objectives and interventions of the educational program
• Maintain safe physical environment of the classroom
• Maintain contact with parents of students and/or professionals concerning student progress
• When appropriate, develop IEPs addressing specific academic, behavioral, and speech needs of students
• Prepare report cards, educational records, classroom observation records, and other documentation as required
• Function as integral member of treatment/IEP team, addressing needs of students
