This substitute position is based on staff medical leave and is anticipated to begin on February 3rd and continue through March 31st. Position Description Under the direction of the Principal and in conjunction with the Director of English Language Learner (ELL) Education, the ELL Teacher will provide English language development (ELD) instruction to students who have been identified as English Language Learners. The ELL teacher will also work with classroom teachers of ELLs to make the curriculum accessible to them.

Requirements

  • Must be committed to the vision of high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, the achievement of academic and linguistic proficiency for all students, and the closing of the achievement gap
  • Must be a positive, highly motivated, self-starter who can work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Must be a self-reflective, active learner capable of interactive dialogue with all members of the school community.
  • Must provide a positive structured learning environment and lesson delivery
  • Has an understanding of theories and teaching methodologies along with understanding of the academic, social and emotional needs of students learning English as a second language.
  • Has a working knowledge of the WIDA standards and the Massachusetts Standards-Based curriculum.
  • Must have well-established communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to share information and resources as appropriate, including strong written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of classroom teaching, including ELL teaching experience preferred
  • ESL Certification Preferred
