About the position

Powell in Houston, TX, is currently seeking an experienced domestic and international Logistics Manager. The Logistics Manager, recognized as a subject matter expert (SME) on logistics management, is responsible for the development and execution of logistical sourcing strategies to achieve the best outcomes for the customer and the business. Responsibilities include logistics management strategies and execution, supplier relationship management, negotiation, risk management, and supplier performance management. The logistics manager will lead and direct the logistics team consisting of supervisors, shipping coordinators, shipping leads, and material handlers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement negotiation strategies for logistic services including inbound and outbound transportation, warehousing, crating/packaging, and freight bill auditing.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Manage the day-to-day inbound and outbound logistics execution including LTL, FTL, and Heavy Haul shipments for both domestic and international destinations.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams and customers to ensure seamless execution of logistics operations.
  • Direct supplier evaluation and selection, negotiating and interpreting contracts between Powell and global logistics suppliers.
  • Develop and be accountable for departmental budget for day-to-day operating and long-range planning.
  • Provide leadership and drive cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as a lead member of the Logistics Practice Council for all Powell businesses.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years logistics and logistics contract development, negotiation and contract management experience, preferably in the electrical/power component industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics Management, Operations or related field.
  • Significant experience in heavy haul transportation management, both domestic and international shipments.
  • Applied knowledge of OSHA, Frank-Dodd Act (Conflict Minerals), DOT, EAR/ITAR, California Transparency in Supply Chain, import/export trade compliance requirements and regulations, and NAFTA and other trade agreements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Professional in Logistics Management is an advantage.
  • Experience in an EPC environment executing major projects.
