Requirements

  • 21 years and older
  • Caretaker must live on premises and possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Caretakers must have a strong customer service orientation and solid backcountry skills, as well as a commitment to AMC’s recreation, education, and conservation goals.
  • Self-motivated and able to demonstrate responsibility and reliability without daily supervision
  • The ability to start the generator is a requirement.
  • Caretakers must be physically and mentally able to endure and enjoy solitude and extreme weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior AMC backcountry employment or closely related experience is preferred.
  • Experience and comfort with winter/snow travel (ski, snowshoe, winter hiking) are necessary for some positions.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee generator systems to ensure there are no power interruptions
  • Daily inspection of facilities to ensure temperatures are maintained in a safe range and that there are no trespassers
  • Assist with trail maintenance
  • Housekeeping of all cabins, bathrooms, and communal spaces, including deep clean projects and organization
  • Engage in daily communication with the manager regarding any concerns to the property.
  • Assist with groundwork, including but not limited to snow removal, firewood stacking, splitting kindling, and solar array clearing
  • Implement energy conservation and environmentally sound practices daily operation
