About The Position

The position involves installing, repairing, replacing, and maintaining locks, as well as opening locks without keys through various methods such as picking, impressing, drilling, and duplicating keys. The locksmith will perform installation, adjustment, servicing, maintenance, and repair of combination door locks, door strikes, and locks on file cabinets, desks, and other furniture. Responsibilities include checking and performing preventive maintenance on locking systems, disassembling combination-locking devices for repairs, changing combinations, and maintaining accurate records of key assignments. The locksmith will also service emergency locking devices and assist contractors as needed.

Requirements

• Ability to comprehend written and oral instructions.
• Possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must possess one or more locksmith certifications.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Private Security Registration.
• Willingness to work rotational shifts, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
• Two or more years of experience as a Certified Locksmith.

Nice To Haves

• Ability to write correspondence.
• Completion of a recognized apprenticeship or vocational program for a locksmith.
• Four years of Grade 1 Carpenter experience or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Install, adjust, service, maintain, and repair combination door locks, door strikes, and locks on furniture.
• Adjust door hinges, closures, and frames.
• Perform preventive maintenance on locking systems.
• Disassemble and repair combination-locking devices.
• Change combinations for vaults and doors.
• Maintain records of key assignments and changes.
• Service emergency locking devices such as panic bars.
• Assist in the development and revision of maintenance schedules.
• Respond to emergency calls.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
