About The Position

The Skilled Crafts and Trade Assistant 2 position is a full-time, non-exempt role at Arizona State University (ASU) that involves serving as a certified trades worker in a specialized area. The primary responsibility is to ensure the proper installation, modification, and repair of related systems, particularly in the area of locks and physical security hardware. The position is based at the Tempe campus but may require occasional travel to other locations for coverage.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and two years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field, or an equivalent combination of experience and/or training.
  • Possess a valid Arizona driver's license (minimum of Class D) upon employment and maintain throughout employment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination and background checks, including fingerprint checks.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in preparing labor and material estimates.
  • Knowledge of techniques for keying, repairing, installing, and servicing locks and related hardware.
  • Familiarity with electronic access systems and computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office).
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Repair, install, and service locks and related hardware, including pinning cylinders and impressioning keys.
  • Repair/install combination locks and maintain desk and file cabinet locks.
  • Use hand tools and power tools for installation and repair tasks.
  • Install and repair Panic Hardware.
  • Cut new/duplicate keys from existing keys, patterns, or codes.
  • Open locks for which there are no existing keys or codes.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and install commercial, industrial, and residential physical security door locking hardware.
  • Maintain master keying systems for both standard and small format.
  • Complete work order requests through an electronic work order management system and detail notes for completion.
