About the position

The Maintenance Worker position at MoDOT is responsible for assisting in the maintenance and operation of the state highway system. This role involves performing various tasks related to the upkeep of roadways and facilities, ensuring safety and efficiency in highway operations. Responsibilities

  • Maintain state highway systems by filling roadway joints and cracks, patching potholes, and directing traffic.
  • Set up traffic control devices such as signs, cones, and arrow boards.
  • Load, unload, spread, and haul materials and supplies; cut and clear brush; and remove trash and debris from roadsides.
  • Clean and repair state highway facilities, including road signs and guardrails, curbs, gutters, and equipment.
  • Operate vehicles to transport employees and materials, plow snow, and spread ice control materials.
  • Mow right of way using tractor mowers and hand tools; operate augers, trenchers, backhoes, forklifts, and various trucks.
  • Repair bridge decks and drains, and clean bridge bents/caps at heights using ladders or scaffolding.
  • Install and maintain signs, including structural and large signs, and inspect truss signs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED/HiSET.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Passing grade on the written portion of the commercial driver's license (CDL) exam prior to hire date.
  • Pass the driving portion of the CDL exam with tanker endorsement within 60 days of hire.
  • Successful completion of a medical-physical examination including drug test and work simulation examination.
  • Successful completion of a national background check.
