About The Position

We are seeking an experienced and reliable Directional Drilling Locator to support our HDD crews in safe and accurately completing underground bores. The Locator plays a critical role in maintaining bore path accuracy, avoiding utilities, and ensuring overall jobsite safety and productivity.

Requirements

  • Experience as an HDD Locator required (minimum 1 year)
  • Strong knowledge of underground utilities, utility locating, and HDD operations
  • Ability to read and understand bore plans, maps, and utility marking systems
  • Valid driver’s license (CDL a plus)
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather and terrain
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to lift 50–75 lbs regularly
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver's license and/or CDL License
  • Clean Driving Record
  • 3 years as a horizontal directional drilling locator

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with DigiTrak Falcon F2/F5, Subsite TK series, or similar systems
  • Understanding of drilling fluids and mud mixing
  • Experience with vacuum excavation and potholing procedures
  • Mechanical aptitude for basic equipment troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of OSHA, utility safety, and industry best practices

Responsibilities

  • Operate and interpret locating equipment (DigiTrak, Subsite, etc.) to guide drill operator
  • Walk the bore path, track the drill head, and communicate depth, pitch, and alignment
  • Read plans, prints, and utility locates to plan bore path
  • Identify potential conflicts with existing utilities and adjust drilling strategy
  • Perform potholing and verification of utilities
  • Communicate clearly with drill operator, laborers, and supervision throughout the bore
  • Set up, maintain, and organize jobsite equipment and tools
  • Assist with pullback, pipe handling, and jobsite restoration
  • Maintain equipment logs, daily drilling reports, and bore shot documentation
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements
  • Support crew with other tasks as needed (mixing mud, vacuum excavation, etc.)
