About The Position

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has an immediate need to employ temporary local hires to assist with disaster response and recovery efforts in Asheville, North Carolina. Local hire employees are typically local residents who aid in the recovery of their community and help their fellow citizens in the recovery process. A local hire's term of employment is 120 days. Local Hire appointments may be extended, in 120-day increments, based on the needs of the disaster. In this Local Hire (Geospatial Information System Manager) position, you will collect, produce, and disseminate geospatial products. Typical assignments include coordinating with the Planning Section chief to request, coordinate, and deploy personnel, performing geo-processing, digitization, geo-referencing, and analytical tasks using GIS technologies, collecting data from internal and external stakeholders to develop and update geospatial products, overseeing the management of geospatial/data products created during disaster operations, and maintaining geospatial and remote sensing databases.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must successfully pass a background investigation.
  • Selective service registration is required for males born after 12/31/59.
  • Must be a high school graduate or possess a GED.
  • Minimum age of eighteen years of age is required.
  • Experience leading or managing a team of subordinates to collect and disseminate geospatial products or information.
  • Experience utilizing specialist Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software to interpret and analyze geospatial data.
  • Experience providing technical guidance on Remote Sensing (aerial and satellite imagery), GIS and various geospatial modeling programs.

Responsibilities
