About The Position

CDS Logistics is seeking a dynamic professional to support the Dispatch Operations of a leading final mile logistics company. The Local Dispatcher will be responsible for supporting all aspects of Outbound load planning operations of assigned operations as well as acting as point person for all delivery and dispatch solutions. This position will report directly to the Operations Manager and their primary goal in this position is to ensure operational excellence metrics are met while maintaining high customer satisfaction for business executed through the respective delivery area. The Local Dispatcher will play a key role in the success of our company; the right candidate will establish significant relationships with contract drivers and internal co-workers. Successful applicant will be able to: Perform quality work within deadlines. Interact and communicate professionally with internal and external customer groups.   • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • 2+ years of experience working in Logistics and dispatch/delivery management..
  • Software proficiency: skill set should be at a proficient level within Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, in order to plan successfully. We will provide training for all internal systems to be utilized. Other dispatching and routing software.
  • Analytical Skills: This person must also have the ability to analyze facts and apply logic and reason to make prompt, concise decisions as required by the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 3 years of experience in dispatch/customer service position in logistics industry, ideally last mile.
  • Experience with final mile delivery industry.
  • Experience with routing and local traffic patterns of the local area to include: MD, VA, DC, PA, DE.

Responsibilities

  • Local Planning: Routing activities to include but not limited to completing truck routes in routing software, maximizing sequence to meet required time stops, print all manifest for drivers, and attach matching orders to manifest. Manage the selection process of Same Day Deliveries
  • Local Dispatch: Assign drivers their daily route, taking into consideration each of CDS’s accounts, logistical requirements, DOT compliance and Driver Capabilities. Removing unsuccessful delivery attempts off trucks and entering notes into the system.
  • Driver Support: During the delivery process address questions or assist in problem solving over the phone as needed to support on time and complete deliveries. Manage drivers’ performance to the 4 hour delivery window and complete needed system updates.
  • Internal Communications: Work with warehouse team to coordinate Same Day loading and dock door assignments as well as coordinate preloading of certain loads. Provide administrative support for the customer service department supporting the logistics business, i.e. acquiring paperwork for next day deliveries, gathering all missing paperwork and supporting coordination of load today needs.
  • Data integrity and system audits: Pulling prior day missing POD’s, obtaining, scanning and classifying PODs, closing out prior days manifests, reviewing and managing late DAWG reports for deliveries that exceed the 4th hour and contacting customers to inform them of potential late deliveries. Completing daily dispatch sheet to track assigned driver miles, days off, rotation, and skills/accounts that they have been certified to deliver. This is reviewed and used as a tool to support routing and dispatch.
  • Utilize and maintain all databases and spreadsheets as required using internal and external systems as assigned.
  • Assist team members in their daily work activities as required.
  • Carry out special projects as assigned.
