About The Position

The Loan Specialist/Financial Aid Counselor at Shenandoah University is responsible for certifying federal and private loans, ensuring timely processing of financial aid paperwork, and providing support to students and families regarding financial aid issues. This full-time position requires collaboration with various departments to maintain compliance with federal regulations and assist students in navigating their financial aid options.

Requirements

  • Experience in Financial Aid preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Required experience in customer service.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of computer programs such as Google products.

Responsibilities

  • Certify student eligibility for federal and private loans.
  • Process documents related to the evaluation of aid eligibility.
  • Meet with students and/or families to discuss financial aid related issues when necessary.
  • Process Federal Nursing loan requests and send files to ECSI on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Review and process Faculty/Staff Grant requests.
  • Maintain current knowledge of tuition assistance compliance requirements, including Title IV federal aid and veteran's benefits.
  • Review Tuition Exchange and Counsel of Independent Colleges (CIC) eligibility and awarding.
  • Review and process Professional Judgment - Cost of Attendance requests.
  • Communicate with Student Accounts staff regarding changes in enrollment and their effects on financial aid awards and tuition.
  • Responsible for Direct Loan and Pell Monthly reconciliation process.
  • Respond to Office of Financial Aid emails and phone calls.
  • Maintain current knowledge and compliance requirements for all federal and private loans.
  • Work with private lenders to ensure efficient certification and disbursement of student loans.
  • Return private loan funds to lenders when students are no longer enrolled or eligible.
  • Conduct in-person exit interview sessions with students and mail out exit interviews in a timely manner.
  • Monitor financial aid listservs and collaborate on regulation updates.
  • Create supporting policy and procedure documents as necessary.
  • Attend regularly and predictably on-site.
