About The Position

The Church Building and Loan Fund (CBLF) is a $78M fund affiliated with the United Church of Christ that has been partnering with churches who own and want to own real estate for over 170 years. Recently, CBLF created Amistad Redevelopment Corporation (ARC), a wholly-owned subsidiary Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), to help attract additional funding and provide technical assistance to help churches repurpose excess property for mission-oriented real estate uses, including affordable housing, early childhood education, healthcare and community facilities. The general purpose of this position is to provide excellent customer service internally and externally by assisting with loan servicing, accounts payable and receivable functions; assisting with audit workpaper preparation; and by assisting borrowers with submitting applications and due diligence for new loans. This position will work under the guidance of the UCC Controller and Senior Lending Officer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business; in lieu of a degree, good working knowledge of, and previous experience in commercial mortgage lending and loan servicing procedures.
  • Strong background in accounts payable, accounts receivable and processing/recording business and financial transactions
  • A clear understanding of or a deep commitment to learning the nuances of church building loans (vs loans by traditional banks and other lenders); the products and services tailored to church borrowers, and the needs, challenges, and opportunities in the field of church-owned real estate.
  • An ability to develop an understanding of the nuances of church building loans (vs commercial loans made by traditional banks and other lenders); the products and services tailored to church borrowers and the needs, challenges, and opportunities in the field of church-owned real estate.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the Church, with a knowledge of, or a willingness to learn about the history and polity of the United Church of Christ and of the history, purpose, and programs of Church Building & Loan Fund

  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple loan transactions simultaneously with an ability to organize invoices, payments, loan records and monitor accounts to maintain accurate financial records
  • Extensive experience and proficiency in all computer applications including MS Excel, Word, Outlook, Adobe, Loan Processing software and other Web-based programs.

  • Experience with NetSuite is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Service all loans on mortgage accounting software for the life of loan (posting payments, disbursements, and managing the process for updating account records) to ensure integrity of controls.
  • Complete monthly loan reconciliation.
  • Monitor active loan portfolio.
  • Perform loan portfolio analytics.
  • In conjunction with the Senior Lending Officer complete risk rating determinations of loans under management as well as new loans to be underwritten.
  • Review loans under management identifying red flags, including but not limited to events such as late payments, casualty losses, and changes in leadership, creating a watchlist and making recommendations for interventions.
  • Review and track commercial loan documents and follow-up to assure all original documents [promissory note, deed of trust, final ALTA policy, hazard insurance] are received and uploaded to Network.
  • Working with the UCC Controller on timing and funding requirements for upcoming loan closings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
