About The Position

Waterstone Mortgage is seeking an experienced Loan Partner to join a high-performing mortgage team! This role requires strong front-end loan expertise. The ideal candidate is comfortable taking applications, structuring loan scenarios, running credit, pre-approving clients, and clearly explaining loan programs to borrowers. This position is highly client-facing and requires confidence, accuracy, and the ability to manage multiple active files while keeping transactions on track. The role is hybrid, with a minimum of two days per week in the office and offers the opportunity to play a key role in supporting consistent production and client experience. Requirements

  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required as well as five years of conventional fixed and ARM, HELCO and construction mortgage loan processing experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of VA and FHA products is required.
  • Proficient knowledge in Microsoft Office is required.
  • Prior experience on Encompass LOS system or other mortgage processing software is required, DU, LP and other automated engine submissions experience is preferred.
  • Using excellent customer service skills which includes maintaining a good attitude, taking ownership of meeting customer needs, going the “extra mile” for customers, demonstrating a commitment to sharpening skills through education and training, using positive communication, and looking for opportunities to respect customers’ time and schedules is required.
  • Federal registration through Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) is required. However, individuals in this position are not eligible to receive loan officer commission.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact and liaison between clients, Loan Originators, Branch Management, Sales Management, and internal processing teams.
  • Take loan applications over the phone, quote interest rates, lock loans, and schedule client appointments.
  • Partner with Loan Originators as part of the sales team to request and obtain referrals from current and prospective clients.
  • Submit complete and accurate loan applications and ensure all files are properly set up in Encompass in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Run Automated Underwriting, review findings, and ensure alignment between underwriting results and Encompass data.
  • Request, order, and track all required documentation and third-party verifications, including but not limited to VOEs, VODs, payoffs, insurance, subordination agreements, and tax transcripts.
  • Review all documentation within 24 hours of receipt to verify accuracy, completeness, income calculations, asset verification, expiration dates, and consistency with loan terms, updating Encompass as needed.
  • Identify and promptly communicate documentation discrepancies to Loan Originators and collaborate on resolution.
  • Maintain accurate milestone tracking and manage a pipeline of up to 25 loan files and/or support two to three Loan Originators.
  • Coordinate and participate in weekly pipeline meetings with Loan Originators to ensure accurate file tracking, contract compliance, and deadline adherence.
  • Proactively communicate loan status updates to borrowers and Realtor partners, including introduction of role, outstanding conditions, commitment dates, and closing timelines.
  • Review property-related documentation for consistency and completeness, including contracts, addenda, title information, seller contributions, repair terms, liens, trusts, powers of attorney, insurance coverage, and payoff details, and request additional items as necessary.
  • Ensure loans are processed to meet contract deadlines and rate lock expiration dates by setting and monitoring critical reminders.
  • Respond to client, Realtor, and third-party inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Attend all required branch and team meetings.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of customer information and comply with state mortgage lending laws, investor guidelines, and real estate compliance requirements.
  • Review investor overlays to confirm appropriate documentation, forms, and loan product eligibility.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by cross-training and assisting with additional branch functions as needed.
  • Perform duties in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Complete any additional duties assigned by management
  • Complete regulatory and compliance certification and training, as required.
  • Assist WMC employees and departments as needed
