About The Position

The Loan Officer at Portland Housing Center (PHC) plays a crucial role in assisting first-time homebuyers through the mortgage finance process. This position focuses on providing education, counseling, and financial resources to ensure equitable access to homeownership for all Portland residents, particularly targeting low-income families, immigrants, and minority populations. The Loan Officer will work collaboratively with the home buying team and community partners to originate loans and support clients in navigating the complexities of mortgage financing.

Requirements

  • Current Oregon State Mortgage Loan Originator License and NMLS SAFE Act compliant status.
  • Four years or more of professional experience in mortgage lending.
  • Experience originating an average of five loans per month in a brokerage environment.
  • Working knowledge of Calyx Origination system and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Familiarity with general underwriting guidelines for affordable lending products.
  • Ability to complete Lending continuing education annually.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to explain the home buying and mortgage financing process to first-time home buyers.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Exceptional communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Assist mortgage-ready customers through the mortgage finance process.
  • Recognize and address the unique financial needs of various community groups.
  • Attend Partner committee meetings to foster relationships for better client service.
  • Assist in underwriting down payment assistance loan files as needed.
  • Originate brokered loans to meet agency mission and business plan goals.
  • Educate clients and partners about the benefits of PHC mortgage products.
  • Develop and implement a plan for sourcing new loan leads.
  • Document all customer contacts within the agency client management system.
  • Nurture partner relationships to support PHC lending services.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal lending laws and regulations.
  • Stay informed on lending industry trends and affordable housing issues.
