About The Position

Process and load harvested timber on trailers. Must have good work ethics and willing to work with and assist co-workers. Must be aware of SMZ (stream management zones) areas. Must read and understand “Georgia’s Best Management Practices for Forestry” Manual.

Requirements

  • Skills Needed to Perform Job: Previous experience is preferred; however, on-the-job training from an experienced loader operator is an option.

Responsibilities

  • Must check engine oil, coolant, and hydraulic levels at the beginning of each shift.
  • Must inspect equipment for leaks or damaged hydraulic lines before operating.
  • Report leaks and/or damages to the crew leader.
  • Must service machine, such as lubricating, as the crew leader recommends.
  • Must know Mill specs on species of wood being loaded.
  • Must know how to grade wood for highest yield. Example: Do not load logs for pulp.
  • Must be able to operate a de-limber.
  • Must be able to operate a ground saw.
  • Must wear appropriate PPE when necessary.
  • Lace-up leather work boots are recommended.
  • Must complete all applicable maintenance videos.
  • Must complete all applicable safety videos.
  • Must be trained in lockout/tagout procedures when machine is being inspected and/or repaired.
  • Must not ‘swing’ wood over machinery or co-workers.
  • Must maintain safe distance from powerlines (2-tree lengths).
  • Must be aware of surroundings and co-workers walking into the work area.
