This job is full-time permanent.  Under Sawmill Shift Supervision, responsible for operating straight or articulated rubber-tired tractor-type vehicle equipped with front-mounted hydraulically powered bucket or grapple to lift and transport bulk materials or raw logs to and from storage or processing areas, to feed conveyors, and to load or unload trucks. Moves levers to lower and tilt bucket and drives front-end loader forward to force bucket into bulk material, or uses grapple to pick up and transport logs for processing. Performs routine maintenance on loader, such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning.

Responsibilities

  • Starts engine, shifts gears, presses pedals, and turns steering wheel to operate loader safely around sawmill production site.
  • Moves levers to lower and tilt bucket and drives front-end loader forward to force bucket into bulk material, or uses grapple to pick up and transport logs for processing.
  • Performs routine maintenance on loader, such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning. Documents daily equipment checks.
  • Reviews all found mechanical issues with maintenance department.
  • Performs such individual assignments as management may direct.
  • Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within all departments, the company and the community.
  • Complies with environmental regulations when using, dispensing or handling hazardous or non-hazardous materials and wastes.
  • Maintains the professional competence, ethical integrity, knowledge and skills necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
  • Performs work following safety procedures and practices.
  • Regular attendance is required between the assigned start and end times for work.  Exhibits regular and punctual attendance habit to comply with existing attendance requirements of the position.
  • It is an essential function of the job that the individual will not be a direct threat to the health or safety of themselves, others, or property.  Direct threat is defined as a significant risk of substantial harm that cannot be eliminated or reduced to an acceptable level by reasonable accommodation without creating an undue hardship on the Company.
