About The Position

The position involves routine loading and unloading of materials within a yard or work site, as well as assembling load packages for delivery to customer job sites. The role is essential for ensuring that materials are handled safely and efficiently, contributing to the overall operations of Builders FirstSource, the largest supplier of building materials in America.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and three months of experience performing similar tasks, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Forklift certification required.
• Knowledge of company products sufficient to consider weight, shape, and handling requirements.
• Ability to read and write to handle work orders and labeling tasks.
• Manual dexterity and ability to use simple hand tools.
• Knowledge of safety procedures while performing forklift driving and materials handling tasks.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Ability to count items and verify against prepared lists.

Responsibilities

• Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trucks, or customer vehicles.
• Installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
• Performs load-building, determining the appropriate weight, composition, and placement of load based on customer order and delivery vehicle capacity.
• Reads work orders or follows oral instructions to determine materials to be moved or loaded.
• Conveys materials to or from storage to designated areas using hand trucks, electric dollies, forklifts, or other devices.
• Opens containers, units, slings, and loads using steel cutters, crowbars, or other hand tools.
• Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials for correct identification.
• Understands and observes all safety procedures to prevent injury to self or co-workers.
