This exciting position is with our historic Skunk Works program. Skunk Works is an integral part of Lockheed's Aeronautics business area responsible for advanced systems development including conceptual design and rapid prototyping of clean sheet solutions and improvements and derivatives to existing systems. The ideal Skunk is an agile, multi-faceted teammate who loves to solve our customer's most difficult challenges. Our projects have supported the U-2, SR-71 Blackbird, F-22 Raptor, F-117 Nighthawk, and F-35 Lightning II. This engineering position is within the Low Observable (LO) Materials Lab team in Marietta, Georgia. What You Will Be Doing The successful engineer will portray knowledge in a lab environment. They will perform research, testing and/or product development encompassing multiple engineering disciplines, such as electronics, electrical, mechanical, and/or chemical. This position requires the ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance, therefore U.S. citizenship is required. Also to obtain a respirator certification and lift 20lbs. In this position, you will: • Work alongside a team of engineers and technicians in a hands-on, lab-based environment to support the design, development, fabrication, and/or testing of low observable materials and systems • Work with multiple classes of materials including, but not limited to: thin films, polymers, composites, metals, foams and honeycombs, coatings, and additively-manufactured materials • Plan and execute research projects, including creating material development plans, material formulation, process development, test method development, material qualification, and scale up of successful product concepts for production • Develop formal documentation such as authoring material and process specifications and/or generating Lab Reports documenting all work performed (including written, photographic, and data interpretation skills) • Support manufacturing process development and scale-up • Interface with internal and external customers • Coordinate with external suppliers regarding technical issues, parts fabrication, new materials and process development, and/or review of manufacturing plans • Support entire LO materials product life cycle to include sustainability, reliability, availability, and maintainability analyses as required • Adhere to lab safety practices, including use of a respirator and other personal protective equipment (PPE) What's In It For You: 3 day weekends every weekend!
