About The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Livestock Receiving Manager to join our team in Ottumwa, IA. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the smooth and efficient receiving, processing, and initial care of livestock arriving at our facility. This is a hands-on position that requires strong leadership skills, a passion for animal welfare, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in livestock handling and management, with experience in a receiving environment preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of animal health, welfare, and handling practices.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in animal science or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the unloading, sorting, and initial assessment of livestock, ensuring proper identification and documentation.
• Monitor animal health and well-being, identifying and addressing any issues promptly.
• Maintain accurate records of livestock arrivals, weights, and any treatments administered.
• Supervise and train receiving staff, ensuring adherence to procedures and safety protocols.
• Collaborate with other departments (e.g., plant operations, hog suppliers, sales) to ensure seamless operations.
• Identify and resolve any issues that may arise during the receiving process.
• Ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your team.
• Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of receiving equipment.
• Identify opportunities to improve receiving procedures and efficiency.
• Other duties as assigned.
