About The Position

The Livestock Market Supervisor position at the Montana Department of Livestock is responsible for overseeing livestock inspections at the Glasgow Stockyards. This role ensures compliance with brand inspection, ownership proof, lien identification, and animal health requirements during ownership changes, slaughter, and transportation. The supervisor also responds to incidents involving livestock and provides guidance to market inspectors, contributing to the protection and support of the livestock industry in Montana.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • At least four years of experience as a Livestock Inspector or related experience.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal livestock laws and regulations.
  • Understanding of livestock anatomy and physiology, including breeds and reproductive stages.
  • Proficiency in word processing and general office procedures.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous supervisory experience within the Department or from prior employment.
  • Prior experience as a Livestock Inspector with the Montana Department of Livestock.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate inspections of livestock at the Glasgow Stockyards.
  • Ensure compliance with brand inspection, proof of ownership, lien identification, and animal health requirements.
  • Respond to incidents of stray cattle and accidents involving livestock on an on-call basis.
  • Resolve ownership discrepancies related to livestock.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to Livestock market inspectors.
