About The Position
The Livestock Manager at Carversville Farm Foundation plays a crucial role in overseeing the daily operations and care of the farm's livestock, which includes grass-fed beef cattle and pastured poultry such as laying hens, turkeys, and broiler chickens. This position is not only about managing the livestock but also involves poultry processing, ensuring that all practices align with the foundation's commitment to organic and regenerative farming. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience in organic, pasture-based livestock systems and will be responsible for training new farmers, troubleshooting issues, and contributing to long-term planning for the farm's operations. In this role, the Livestock Manager will lead a dedicated team, executing daily tasks that are essential for the health and productivity of the livestock. This includes managing the livestock team, raising poultry in succession, monitoring livestock health, and implementing rotational grazing practices. The manager will also be involved in developing and implementing strategies that enhance productivity and ensure the well-being of the animals. Record keeping is a vital part of this position, as it helps track the health and productivity of the livestock, ensuring that all operations are running smoothly and efficiently. The Livestock Manager will work closely with the Farm Director and other team members to ensure that the farm meets its philanthropic goals of donating 100% of its harvests to local soup kitchens.
