About The Position

The Live Hanger is a frontline employee responsible for handling live poultry and placing them onto the processing line at the start of the production process. This role involves hanging live birds onto shackles or conveyors efficiently and humanely, ensuring a steady flow into the processing facility while adhering to animal welfare and safety standards.

Requirements

  • Keen attention to detail and ability to identify imperfections quickly.
  • Physical strength and stamina to stand, bend, and lift repeatedly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work in a warm, dusty, and noisy area with exposure to live animals.
  • Comfortable handling live poultry and working under time pressure.
  • Basic awareness of animal welfare practices.
  • Good hand-eye coordination is required.
  • Must be able to understand Good Manufacturing Practices and Product Handling procedures.
  • Must not own or have contact with live poultry, or birds to maintain biosecurity compliance.
  • Teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with coworkers.

Responsibilities

  • Retrieve live poultry from crates delivered to the plant.
  • Hang live birds by their legs onto moving shackles or conveyor systems with speed and accuracy.
  • Ensure proper placement of birds to minimize stress and comply with humane handling guidelines.
  • Monitor the condition of live birds, reporting any signs of distress or health issues to supervisors.
  • Maintain a consistent pace to keep the line running smoothly and meet production targets.
  • Assist in unloading poultry from delivery trucks as needed.
  • Keep the live hang area clean and organized, following sanitation and safety protocols.
  • Report equipment malfunctions or hazards in the live hang area to management promptly.
