About The Position

St. James Parish Government is hiring Litter Abatement Staff under the Operations Department. JOB FUNCTION: To provide physical effort to accomplish a variety of semi-skilled tasks and is considered an introductory level of employment. It is classified as essential during declared emergencies or natural disasters and is a nonexempt position at forty hours per week. This position is “Safety Sensitive†and subject to random drug testing as per the St. James Parish Government Employee Handbook. Individuals in this class are able to complete the majority of their projects/assignments with a minimum amount of supervision. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Includes any combination of the following illustrative examples of duties and responsibilities including but not limited to:

Requirements

• High School diploma or general education diploma (GED).
• Ability to add, subtract, and divide in all units of measurement using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to define common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Class E Louisiana Drivers License.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and enjoy outdoors
• Ability to work as a team player and display a pleasant respectful, and positive attitude.
• Working knowledge of traffic laws and regulations related to a motor vehicle
• Ability to perform physical labor required of the position
• Ability to walk, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
• Ability to use hands to finger, handle, feel objects, tools, and climb or balance.
• Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

• Picking up trash and litter along all major roads and subdivisions in the Parish
• Picking up trash and litter on all parish owned property
• Transporting trash and litter to local landfill sites.
• Other duties as assigned
