About The Position

This 18-hour-a week position is responsible for overseeing the administrative duties of the Curatorial Department, specifically related to the Museum's Exhibition Programming. The Exhibitions Assistant will assist with all aspects of exhibitions preparation, for both temporary and permanent collection installations. Tasks include preparing and sending exhibition contracts and loan agreements, booking exhibition installers, arranging for the pick-up and delivery of works for temporary exhibitions, and serving as the contact for exhibiting artists regarding all logistical elements of their exhibition. This position supports the work of the Curator and the Collections Manager, and is a key member of the Curatorial Department.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in an arts, culture, or customer service-related position.
  • Interpersonal skills are a must: be courteous, efficient, timely, and possess a positive attitude.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills required.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Wild Apricot, In-Design a plus.

Nice To Haves

  • BA or BFA from an accredited institution in Art History, Art Education, Museum Education, Studio Art, or related fields with a minimum one year of applicable experience working in a museum setting or public arts organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work with a variety of audiences.
  • Knowledge of museums and/or the visual arts.
  • The candidate must be reliable, punctual, accountable, organized, and professional.
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment and to contribute in a meaningful way to the diversity and inclusion efforts of the University.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule; to include weekends and beyond normal working hours when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Exhibitions Calendar and ensure all exhibition-related tasks are communicated to appropriate staff and completed on time.
  • Prepare and send exhibition contracts and loan agreements to exhibiting artists.
  • Arrange for the pick-up and delivery of works for temporary exhibitions.
  • Serve a contact for exhibiting artists when they have logistical questions about their exhibitions.
  • Assist with deinstallation of exhibitions and prepping the galleries for the painters; book gallery painters and exhibition installers.
  • Assist the Collections Manager with packing and unpacking of all exhibition works.
  • Responsible for the Administration of the Annual Juried Exhibition, including submission platform, communications, and artist drop off and pickup.
  • Conduct research related to upcoming exhibitions per the direction of the Curator and Collections Manager; assist with adding content to the Danforth's Culture Connect app.
  • Work with the Marketing Design and Communications Manager in ensure graphic design and image needs for each exhibition cycle are received and completed.
  • Work with the Learning and Engagement Manager in the implementation of exhibition programs.
