The Strategic Issues & Litigation Group (SI&L) is responsible for the oversight, evaluation, and management of complex, high-stakes litigation and investigations, management of retained counsel, and other functions. The Litigation Support Manager to be hired will be part of SI&L's tightly integrated team coordinating legal initiatives and providing comprehensive, high-quality legal advice and advocacy. The Litigation Support Manager is expected to be an involved, strongly productive member of the SI&L team. Strong analytical, problem solving, and oral and written communication skills and good judgment are essential. The ability to work closely and collaboratively with in-house counsel, legal analysts, eDiscovery project managers, financial analysts, and outside law firms is critical. The position requires a candidate with substantial project management and legal operations experience in complex, high-stakes litigation and with a commitment to learning and expanding his or her skill set.

  • Manage SI&L's document preservation, collection, review and production in conjunction with document review vendors, in-house and outside counsel, and eDiscovery project managers.
  • Manage the implementation and maintenance of third-party technology platform tools, virtual case rooms, and document databases.
  • Constantly monitor, assess, and in partnership with Chevron's Law eDiscovery team, identify new tools that can support the team's eDiscovery projects.
  • Provide strategic advice and guidance on document preservation and data collection issues for SI&L while maintaining alignment with the company's discovery strategies.
  • Prepare, review, and update SI&L discovery policies, protocols, and best practices documents.
  • Manage the legal operations of SI&L, including strategic thinking and planning; oversee strategic priorities; track key performance indicators; manage communications to team; plan out the team's calendar for the year; organize and facilitate internal and external meetings (scheduling, logistics, agendas, attendees, etc.).
  • In partnership with Chevron's Law eDiscovery team and Law Digital Platform, test, deploy, and manage tools, processes, and automation to SI&L after investigating and assessing vendors and technologies.
  • Oversee SI&L's contract management systems, knowledge management, and matter management/e-billing.
  • Manage outside counsel, including e-billing, budgeting and onboarding.
  • Track outside counsel guidelines, engagement letters, rate increases and addition of timekeepers to matters.
  • Prepare, manage and track budgets and spend, including negotiating rates and proposed budgets from outside counsel and vendors.
  • Supervise SI&L legal analysts, including hiring, training, performance management, career development and salary administration.
  • Serve as SI&L's advisor on enterprise policies and initiatives related to the creation, use, retention and disposition of company information or legal operations.
  • Partner with other internal teams on enterprise legal issues related to eDiscovery and information governance policies, strategies, and workflows.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of litigation project management experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of eDiscovery litigation experience, including experience with all stages of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM).
  • Demonstrated success working on complex, multi-jurisdiction litigation matters in federal and state courts, including experience with preservation, discovery, and other procedural requirements in federal and state court and the corresponding impacts on the litigation.
  • Substantial experience with eDiscovery tools and document review platforms.
  • Successful proven ability to organize and manage many different workstreams, collaborate with outside counsel and internal team(s), set and maintain calendars, schedules and agendas, and keep communications clear and timely.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including legal drafting and negotiation.
  • Articulate, detail-oriented and hard-working.
  • Ability to work independently, but within a team-focused environment.
  • 10 years of litigation project management and eDiscovery experience.
  • Experience working in eDiscovery practice group of a premier law firm managing large, highly complex eDiscovery matters.
  • Substantial project management and legal operations experience in complex, high-stakes litigation.
  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited U.S. law school.
  • Admission to practice law in at least one state or the District of Columbia.
  • Relocation will be considered.
