SUMMARY The Litigation Paralegal will operate under the direct supervision of the Litigation Department's Attorneys and Paralegal Supervisor, providing essential support in the management of personal injury case files throughout the litigation process. The Litigation Paralegal plays a pivotal role in all aspects of personal injury litigation, including efficiently processing litigation casework, drafting legal documents, and ensuring compliance with legal standards and deadlines. The Litigation Paralegal will be proficient in e-filing, scheduling, and managing attorney calendars with meticulous attention to detail. They will also handle medical record management, lien processing, trial preparation, and maintain open communication with clients and relevant parties. Upholding strict confidentiality and demonstrating strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role. The Litigation Paralegal excels as a communicator, collaborator, and is self-motivated. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience as a paralegal, demonstrating competence in legal processes and casework.
  • Proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal.
  • Positive attitude and great communication skills.
  • Proficiency in administrative, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Minimum typing speed of 60 words per minute (WPM).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other frequently used software and applications.
  • Strong ability to handle caseload timely and efficiently and execute delegated work.
  • Strong ability to multitask effectively, balance priorities, re-prioritizing as needed, meeting deadlines, and work with urgency.
  • Independent self-starter.
  • A commitment to maintaining a positive office environment and strict adherence to the firm's "Zero Tolerance" policy regarding office gossip, drama, or behavior that negatively affects office morale or individual employees.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the guidance of Litigation Attorneys and the Paralegal Supervisor, providing valuable support to the department throughout the litigation process.
  • Contribute to the achievement of Company and Department goals, objectives, and measurable targets.
  • Actively participate in department and case meetings.
  • Adhere to established company policies and procedures and uphold compliance standards.
  • Process litigation casework, tasks, and documents efficiently through the case management system, ensuring accuracy, legal compliance, and meeting internal and external deadlines.
  • Proficient in performing case audits upon transfer and through duration of case.
  • Draft various legal documents, including petitions, discovery, motions, notices, and affidavits, ensuring timely filing and proper service, including transmittal correspondence.
  • Proficiency in e-filing and correctly handling service of documents.
  • Proficiency in scheduling and calendaring with attention to detail, including performing the role of scheduling coordinator and efficiently managing attorney calendars without error, coordinating multiple dates and deadlines crucial to case management. Scheduling includes appointments, court hearings, and other case related matters.
  • Monitoring and tracking of statute of limitations for assigned cases to ensure timely filing of lawsuits.
  • Maintain open communication with clients, attorneys, courts, experts, service providers, and other relevant parties, ensuring effective interaction.
  • Proficiency in medical record management, including updating medical providers, costs, affidavits, and prepping and filing records in admissible form.
  • Proficiency in managing liens including verifying validity, updating lien tracking systems, and processing liens efficiently.
  • Strong abilities in trial preparation.
  • Processing case expenses and all billing through the accounting department.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality to protect the firm and the client's sensitive information (in accordance with HIPAA and attorney-client privilege).
