About The Position

Stone Pigman Walther Wittmann is seeking a skilled, detail-oriented Litigation Paralegal with proven experience supporting matters governed by Louisiana law. This role partners closely with attorneys to manage case preparation, legal research, drafting, discovery, and trial support, ensuring deadlines are met and work product is accurate, organized, and court-ready.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a certificate of paralegal studies from an accredited institution.
  • Direct experience working with Louisiana legal procedures and regulations.
  • Strong organizational, research, and written communication skills.
  • Strong command of legal writing, document formatting, and proofreading.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and meet firm and court deadlines.
  • Professional, clear communication with clients and external stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail and sound judgment when handling confidential information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) and comfort learning new legal technology.

Nice To Haves

  • Paralegal certification (e.g., NALA, NFPA, or Louisiana-specific certification).
  • Experience supporting litigation attorneys in a law firm setting.
  • Proficiency with case management software and legal research tools.

Responsibilities

  • Legal Drafting, Formatting & Filing
  • Draft, format, and finalize pleadings, motions, memoranda, discovery requests/responses, and correspondence.
  • Prepare filing-ready documents consistent with Louisiana court rules, local rules, and firm standards.
  • Discovery & E-Discovery Management
  • Manage discovery workflows, including document collection, review support, and production preparation.
  • Maintain organized electronic and paper files; assist with bates labeling, privilege logs, and tracking productions.
  • Document Management & File Organization
  • Maintain complete, well-organized electronic and paper case files, ensuring documents are accurately labeled, indexed, and easy to retrieve.
  • Apply firm naming conventions and version control for drafts and final documents; ensure the correct version is used for filing, service, and client delivery.
  • Process inbound records and correspondence (mail, email, portals): scan/OCR as needed, save to the correct matter, and route to the appropriate attorney/team member.
  • Create and maintain matter chronologies, document logs, and production trackers to support attorney review and reporting.
  • Coordinate secure transmission of documents to clients, experts, vendors, and co-counsel in accordance with confidentiality requirements.
  • Support records retention practices, including archiving and closing files at the end of a matter consistent with firm procedures.
  • Legal & Factual Research
  • Research statutes, jurisprudence/case law, and local rules; summarize findings for attorney review.
  • Compile supporting facts, timelines, and reference materials to assist with case strategy and motion practice.
  • Case Management, Calendaring & Deadline Control
  • Maintain case files and case management systems, including matter organization and document control.
  • Calendar deadlines and court dates; track tasks, deliverables, and upcoming milestones; provide status updates to attorneys.
  • Coordinate deposition, hearing, and meeting logistics (scheduling, notices, materials, and confirmations).
  • Trial, Hearing & Deposition Support
  • Prepare deposition and hearing binders, including key pleadings, discovery excerpts, medical/record summaries, chronologies, and issue outlines.
  • Draft and coordinate deposition notices, subpoenas duces tecum, witness subpoenas, and related correspondence; track service and returns.
  • Coordinate court reporter, videographer, interpreter, and conference room arrangements; confirm exhibits, technology needs, and remote connection details.
  • Organize, label, and manage deposition and trial/hearing exhibits; prepare exhibit lists and ensure copies are available for counsel, witnesses, and the court as required.
  • Prepare and file pretrial/hearing documents (e.g., witness lists, exhibit lists, joint pretrial orders, and trial subpoenas) as directed.
  • Assist attorneys during depositions, hearings, and trial with real-time document retrieval, exhibit management, and coordination with witnesses and staff.
  • Summarize deposition transcripts and key testimony; flag follow-up tasks and deadlines arising from testimony.
  • Maintain the trial/hearing calendar and run-of-show checklist; coordinate deliveries, printing, and last-minute filings.
