Operating under the direct supervision of the pro bono attorneys, this role contributes to all phases of litigation, including trial preparation, document management, and administrative coordination.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; majors in legal studies, political science, or related fields preferred.
  • Paralegal certificate preferred.
  • Minimum three years of litigation legal assistant or paralegal experience, including hands‑on case management and trial support.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with litigation support software, such as Relativity, is required.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with virtual meeting platforms such as Teams and Zoom.
  • Solid experience with case/matter management systems and other database tools used to organize and manage litigation data.
  • Expert research skills, including the ability to use online research tools, government websites, and publicly available databases.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of litigation software such as Relativity is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong client‑service orientation.
  • Professional demeanor with the ability to interact courteously and effectively with attorneys, clients, court personnel, vendors, and colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Provides litigation support on civil and criminal pro bono matters, including factual research, document review, preparation of case materials, and direct collaboration with pro bono clients.
  • Maintains organized case files and legal documents by indexing, imaging, and managing pleadings, correspondence, and document repositories.
  • Utilizes litigation support platforms (e.g., Relativity) for document review, case organization, and database management.
  • Drafts, proofreads, and formats legal documents and correspondence; communicates professionally with pro bono clients to gather information, maintain ongoing contact, and support client needs throughout the case.
  • Supports document production by reviewing materials, redacting sensitive information, and tracking produced documents.
  • Assists with trial preparation and logistics, including organizing exhibits, assembling trial binders, coordinating courtroom technology, retrieving supplies, and supporting attorneys during hearings or proceedings.
  • Maintains deposition files and prepares deposition materials, including exhibit packets, outlines, and supporting documentation.
  • Performs litigation‑related errands such as courthouse filings, service of documents, and delivery of materials to attorneys and trial support staff.
  • Conducts light investigative work, including retrieving public records, gathering background information, taking evidentiary photographs, and observing court proceedings to support case development as needed.
  • Meets with pro bono clients off‑site when necessary, including at community organizations, shelters, detention facilities, or other partner locations.
  • Collaborates with the Litigation & Trial Support team on special projects, overflow work, and cross‑functional initiatives supporting pro bono litigation.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned to support efficient litigation operations and ensure high‑quality service to pro bono clients.
