Position Summary: The Litigation Counsel position will provide internal legal support to the Progress Residential Legal and Property Management Teams and will report to the Vice President of Litigation. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, management of legal matters pertaining to pre-litigation and insurance claims, and active litigation, as well as advising the property management business on legal compliance matters. This position provides counsel and guidance to all Progress Residential functional departments and works closely with business stakeholders and paralegals. Supporting claims, litigation, risk management, and compliance along with supporting business stakeholders in risk mitigation and compliance initiatives.

Requirements

  • JD degree and admitted to the practice of law in Georgia, Arizona, or Texas.
  • Knowledge of residential real estate and property management related claims and litigation.
  • 2+ years of litigation or other relevant legal experience at a top law firm or from an in-house corporate or similar setting.
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently, lead large projects, and run fast-paced matters
  • Excellent organizational, drafting, and communication skills
  • Strong presentation and project management skills in working with business partners and other stakeholders
  • Capacity to work in a high-volume environment and a changing legal and policy landscape

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on class actions, consumer protection matters or government investigations is a plus.
  • Having In-house legal experience is a plus when applying for a position in our legal department

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel and support to outside counsel in management of legal proceedings and related litigation matters, including reviewing pleadings and discovery, and preparing employees for depositions.
  • Assist in addressing legal issues associated with residential property management, to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and statutes.
  • Provide legal analysis, strategy, and solutions in assisting the litigation team in managing claims, litigation, and risk management strategies with business stakeholders.
  • Work with compliance team in developing risk mitigation strategies for business partners and stakeholders
  • Experience managing outside counsel
