About The Position

As Litigation Counsel, you’ll play a critical role in protecting Underdog’s business and advancing our interests by managing and resolving a broad range of disputes. You will oversee a portfolio of matters spanning personal injury, consumer and commercial disputes, regulatory inquiries, pre-litigation issues, and more. You’ll be a hands-on strategist who partners with internal stakeholders, outside counsel, and insurance carriers to drive aligned and effective resolutions. This role will also help build scalable processes to reduce litigation risk and strengthen Underdog’s legal infrastructure in a fast-moving and highly regulated industry.

Requirements

  • J.D. from a top-tier law school with active membership in at least one state bar (CA or NY preferred).
  • 5+ years of litigation experience at a top law firm and/or in-house, with experience in state and federal courts.
  • Familiarity with the tech, gaming, or e-commerce space preferred.
  • Strong background in insurance coverage, consumer disputes, and personal injury issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex disputes from strategy through resolution.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable juggling multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Hands-on problem solver with sound judgment when navigating novel legal issues.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a diverse docket of litigation, arbitration, and regulatory matters across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Oversee outside counsel relationships, including staffing, strategy, budgets, and discovery.
  • Partner closely with Compliance, Government Affairs, and internal teams to assess and mitigate exposure as well as litigation and regulatory risks.
  • Resolve disputes efficiently and cost-effectively while protecting Underdog’s reputation.
  • Establish repeatable processes and operational efficiencies across the litigation function.
  • Respond to subpoenas, regulatory inquiries, and other third-party requests.
  • Anticipate emerging legal risks and prepare the company for evolving challenges.
