The Counsel II, Litigation Manager at GEICO will oversee class actions and complex litigation related to business operations. This role involves close collaboration with various departments, including Operations and Tech, within a supportive legal team that provides practical legal advice. The ideal candidate will possess significant experience in litigation management and demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Collaborate with and manage outside counsel.
  • Advise internal stakeholders on litigation strategy and risks.
  • Coordinate and actively participate in internal discovery activities in partnership with Operations, Tech, and legal management.
  • Manage legal risks and resolve disputes.
  • Facilitate the escalation of complex matters to internal stakeholders and referral to outside counsel while maintaining control over case management and expenses.
  • Conduct research as needed to provide relevant advice.
  • Proactively monitor legislation, regulations, and emerging trends in insurance litigation, class actions, and litigation procedure.
  • Counsel and advise GEICO leadership on pending claims-based litigation and litigation trends.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 5-7 years of litigation management experience at a law firm, government, and/or in-house role.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-lawyers.
  • Ability to balance legal risk and business objectives.
  • Proficiency in managing multiple priorities, projects, and stakeholders.
  • Experience managing class actions
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, both legal and non-legal.
  • Trial and appellate experience.
