About The Position

We are seeking a Pressman to join our team in Commack, NY. In this position, the Pressman is responsible for setting up and operating the printing press to produce carton/box and related products.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent required
  • 2+ years as a Pressman or 5-7 years as a Second Pressman
  • Minimum 3 years of lithographic press printing experience is required
  • Experience working with KBA sheeted press, 8 & 9 color is required
  • In depth knowledge of the mechanics and capabilities of press
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Requires experience running, troubleshooting, and quality control
  • Ability to understand written instructions and set up the press, and carry out instructions
  • Ability to regularly sit, stand, bend, reach, and move about the facility
  • Regularly exposed to noise, dust, odors, and oils
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment (24-hour turnaround on product)
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50 pounds with or without mechanical assistance
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality - accurately record work time on a daily basis
  • Able to operate a computer and time clock machines

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret job orders
  • Determine quantity to be printed, stock specifications, colors, and special printing instructions. Enter all required job information into the computer system
  • Review and sign off daily time sheets
  • Installs and locks plate into position, using hand tools, to achieve pressure required for printing
  • Measures plate thickness and inserts packing sheets on plate cylinder to build up plate to printing height.
  • Fills ink and dampening solution fountains and adjusts controls to regulate flow of ink and dampening solution to plate cylinder
  • Removes and cleans plate and cylinders
  • Loads paper into feeder or installs rolls of paper, adjusts feeder and delivery mechanisms, and unloads printed material from delivery mechanism
  • Measures paper thickness and adjust space between blanket and impression cylinders according to thickness of paper stock
  • Adjust press throughout production run to maintain specific registration and color density
  • Starts press and examines printed copy for ink density, position on paper, and registration
  • Complete daily assigned jobs as scheduled to shift and produce within budgetary times
  • Demonstrate proficiency in quick changeovers to minimize waste of materials
  • Perform daily, weekly and monthly maintenance as required
  • Ensure all safety guards and kill switches are in working condition and in place
  • Record needed repairs for maintenance and scheduling of repair
  • Ensure maintenance department documents completion of repair on the maintenance log
  • Keep work area clean and organized
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards to ensure a high level of quality printing is achieved
