About The Position

The Literacy Group Facilitator is responsible for working with leadership to provide structured, targeted literacy interventions to, primarily, first grade students during the school day and structured enrichment activities during the after-school program at Pan American Academy Charter School (PAACS). During the school day this position engages small groups of students with identified academic barriers to test and implement a variety of literacy interventions and monitor student progress. The Literacy Group Facilitator collaborates with the Éxito K-3 Literacy Leader to support the design and implementation of literacy interventions for the in-school and afterschool programs, with the main goal of developing proficient literacy skills that support academic growth. Additionally, this position develops and implements after-school program lesson plans, for elementary and/or middle school aged youth, related to language arts, math, science, political science, health, arts, recreation, life skills, etc. The Literacy Group Facilitator facilitates after-school program classes and helps program participants with homework. This position reports to the K-8 Site Coordinator. This is an ONSITE position with onsite work conducted at Congreso's main office and Pan American Academy Charter School (PAACS).   The Literacy Group Facilitator applies the principles of the organization’s signature service delivery approach, Primary Client Model (PCM™), by promoting a positive employee/client-focused experience that is appreciative of the unique strengths, values and needs that each individual brings; and by using data to inform and drive decision making. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED/HISET required.
  • 2 years’ work experience in early childhood education or afterschool settings required.
  • Mandated Reporter and VRA training certificates are required and may be completed post hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or the human services field a plus.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) written and verbal skills a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Represents Congreso’s mission, values, and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and will be an ambassador of our work.
  • Collaborates with supervisor and other tutors to develop a targeted approach of delivering 1:1 or small group instruction to students during the school day using a variety of activities to reinforce learning and development.
  • Collaborates with the Éxito K-3 Literacy Leader to develop individualized student learning goals, achievements, and overall progress to ensure client success.
  • Prepares and delivers phonics-based English Language Arts lesson plans with adherence to the curriculum and a strong attention to detail.
  • Maintains a strong organizational system to ensure all students receive the correct interventions on their structured schedule.
  • Collaborates and builds rapport with teachers to create an environment where all our clients’ stakeholders are up-to-date and informed on student progress.
  • Facilitates daily activities in 3-hour after-school program for up to twelve (12) K-5th grade or fifteen (15) 6th-8th grade students.
  • Writes lesson plans and provides instruction in three focus areas: 1) creative and performing arts (i.e., dance, theater, fashion, visual arts, arts and crafts); 2) STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and/or 3) Athletics and Health (recreation activities, basketball, soccer, cooking/gardening clubs)
  • Provides time for students to complete homework, providing direct help as needed.
  • Supervises snack time.
  • Manages classroom to encourage positive interaction among students, resolves conflicts non-violently.
  • Monitors student behavior and recommends any necessary disciplinary action to the Site Coordinator.
  • Tracks student progress using Congreso’s data system as appropriate.
  • Maintains and inventories supplies and equipment and requests supplies and equipment in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that classrooms and other school spaces are left in good condition each day and reports any loss or damage to the Site Coordinator.
  • Records and reports any incidents that occur as soon as possible.
